Grinding of metal surfaces by use of various grinding tools such as contact wheels with different elastic cushions and abrasive belts – the so called „belt grinding system“ - was well-known throughout the USA already before world war II, whilst its introduction to Europe happened around 1950 only.
Pioneers of this introduction were Fritz-Gerhard Kemper – founder and long-term CEO of KEMPER-KONTAKT Gert Kemper GmbH, Wuppertal/Germany, as manufacturer of the contact wheels and head-engineer Otto Schleppi from the company GREIF in Hagen/Germany as machine producer. Later on the company Ludwig Loeser from Speyer/Germany took over as leading manufacturer of belt grinding machines.
Grinding of metal surfaces is not only limited to the belt grinding system, being a necessary process in industry and handicraft. For applications requiring a special softness and flexibility or applications asking for a fine abrasive process, smoothing, pre-polishing or generating a surface suitable for following galvanic processes, flap wheels are the ideal choice.
They are manufactured in various designs, as shaft mounted versions for hand-operated machines or as flap wheel for the integration into large grinding installations, normal wheel stands or together with flexible spindles.
Extremely shaped workpieces need treatment with high flexible, slotted cloth – e.g. with the ORIGINAL-KEMPER®-Sanding Star.
Pleated Mops are used in case grinding without set-off in angles, corners, edges, slots is necessary.
Grinding of Inox steel , particularly to achieve elegant, dull, line-finished surfaces is done by abrasive tools made of non-woven material. Many people call this brushing of Inox steel.
All grinding tools named herein – contact wheels for the belt grinding system, flap wheels, finishing tools made of non-woven material, the ORIGINAL-KEMPER®-Sanding Star, are produced in constant quality and exported world-wide by KEMPER-KONTAKT Gert Kemper GmbH.
